Dance Yourself To Death: Tag 1

dytd_day1.jpgWe were dirty.  We were tired.  We were cranky.

We had our suitcases packed and our passports in our hands. This morning, when we found out that our flight home had been cancelled, we began furiously trying to re-book our flights and find a place to stay, calling our families to tell them we're (happily) stuck in Berlin, and trying to recover from the past month of tour.

My first attempt at re-booking the flights could only get us home on April 29th.  This would have meant that we'd have had to cancel our homecoming show in Toronto, opening for Sia on the 28th.  After standing in line for 5 hours at Air France, I hoped that my pathetic excuse that I'm a musician trying to get home for a gig would convince them to send us home early.  By some miracle, it actually worked (nevermind that we're stopping over in Paris, Las Vegas and Montreal before actually touching Toronto).  I ended up asking my customer service representative if she would marry me.  She said she'd think about it.

The second big deal of the day was finding a place to stay.  I soon realized that there are no vacant hotel rooms left in Berlin, due to all the flight cancellatoins.  So I started phoning everyone I know in Europe, asking if they had friends in Berlin who we could crash with.  I'm not going to say how it happened, because I'm still confused by our luck, but we ended up moving into a villa with a private chef, and they agreed to let us stay here for as long as we need to, providing we keep the place clean and keep ourselves scarce.  I feel a bit like Cinderella, only there are no bitchy stepsisters playing pranks on me.  As soon as we'd unpacked, Johnny and I went to the supermarket and bought an ice cream cake to celebrate.

We are clean.  We are rested.  We are happy.  How UN rock'n'roll.

What started as a nightmare day, has ended up feeling like a fairy tale.

We'll be at the Men show Tuesday night in Kreuzberg if you want to come dance, and I'll keep blogging about other fun shit we do (like maybe a secret surprise DYTD gig.......).

I love love LOVE you Germany.

x Jen
