So here we are! Let's start off with a short introduction. My name is Kristoffer and I am one forth of Swedish indie rock band The Upallnights. We've been honored to write a tour diary for this webmag and we intend to report from every gig of this German tour that we're on. So, now that that's decided, let's move on to the actual reporting shall we? Welcome to our second tour 2009!

Since we started this band we have played a very broad variety of venues. We've played big clubs, small clubs, cafés and even at a private pool party. Now, we've gone full circle and played a Belgian kitchen... It started with the longest drive of the tour - what was supposed to take seven hours turned in to twelve.

The sun is shining in Greifswald. We're at the radio station now for a cup of tea, trying to sober up. Like the dogs we sometimes are we're just sitting here licking the wounds from last night.

We arrived in Berlin around seven pm, went straight to Magnet to check out the set up. We were going to play a club called "Sweden, Sweden!" but the event was not to start until around twelve.

Back again in lovely Germany! It's been just four months since the last time but why wait? We have fallen in love with touring this country and it seems like people appreciate what we're doing. The drive from stockholm was fast.

Third time in Berlin, second time at Schokoladen, we knew roughly what to expect. Still exhausted after the Griefswald gig, we arrived pretty worn out. But, I know we all had our minds made up - let's take what energy is left in these bodies of ours and make sure that this - our last gig of the tour - really shows the Berliners what The Upallnights are about. Soundcheck was quick and easy thanks to soundtechnician Stefan, a lovable character, great guy and massive Kiss-fan.

Let me tell you, the most common question you get asked when you're touring is "Where are you going next?". When you talk to people in the major cities and you tell them "Well, we're going to Dresden, Chemnitz, Greifswald and..." they always interrupt you and go "GREIFSWALD??!! Why would you want to go THERE?". All you have to do to get the answer to that question is come to Greifswald and attend a concert by The Upallnights. It'll become PERFECTLY clear just why we'd want to go there.

Being on tour means experiencing contrasts. As I told you yesterday, the gig in Dresden was marvelous. Chemnitz, on the other hand, was something completely different. Thing was, originally we were not going to play Chemnitz at all. The gig was booked only two weeks ago when another gig was cancelled. What that means is that the promoters had very little time to promote the gig. I'm guessing, by now you have already figured out where this story is going...

Oh, what a lovely gig! The show at Ost Pol in Dresden turned out brilliant. It was part of a birthday celebration, for an internet music magazine much like this one, so joy was in the air and we tried our very best to participate in the celebrative mood. I believe we managed to do that, and raise it to the next level. The gig was explosive and felt very indie indeed - there was no stage, we stood on the floor and played our most uptempo songs until the police came and ordered us to shut up...

After the long drive from Stockholm to Trelleborg and the ferry trip to Rostock, we arrived in Hamburg early in the morning. We were all pretty fucked up and shit faced from staying up all night on that ferry. Even though some of us actually tried to sleep a bit, a gang of Russian truckdrivers kept us wide awake by playing Russian card games and laughing hysterical Russian laughs all night long. We did, of course, not understand a single word they said but they sure seemed to have one hell of a good time, judging from those intensely high volumed Russian truckdriver laughs.
