The Upallnights: Berlin

Finale in Berlin: The Upallnights auf TourThird time in Berlin, second time at Schokoladen, we knew roughly what to expect. Still exhausted after the Griefswald gig, we arrived pretty worn out. But, I know we all had our minds made up - let's take what energy is left in these bodies of ours and make sure that this - our last gig of the tour - really shows the Berliners what The Upallnights are about. Soundcheck was quick and easy thanks to soundtechnician Stefan, a lovable character, great guy and massive Kiss-fan.

Then we were off for a quick bite to eat. Rushed back to catch the support band Use Your Fucking Headphones along with friends from Berlin and Sweden who had showed up. A few bottles of beer and suddenly it's stagetime. Bam! We started of with the explosion that is the song Train To Nowhere. By the time we had finished the second song I was already soaking wet. For me, playing in this band equals a lot of down-strokes on the guitar. Songs like Blueberry Pie and Cheek To Cheek really leaves me with an aching right arm. Imagine if you'd have to build an entire house in an hour; you'd really have to hammer those nails into those wooden boards with speed wouldn't you?

Well, that's a bit what it's like playing those songs. But, I love that "hammering" - otherwise I wouldn't have written them. The show went down well and we fell to the floor in a pool of sweat and joy. The rest of the boys rushed of to experience the Berlin nightlife but I didn't tag along. I wasn't sleepy, it was just that I had such a strong feeling of satisfaction that I just wanted to linger in that. Besides, I know we'll be back soon. So, I went upstairs to the band apartment, poured myself a glass of bourbon, smoked a few cigarettes, listened to some Håkan Hellström classics and just
enjoyed the moment.

I love Berlin. I love Germany. But, Sweden isn't that bad either and it's time now to go home.
See you next time and thanks for reading! / Kris
