The RaveonettesThe Raveonettes have a new album called Lust Lust. We asked Sune Rose Wagner if Denmark is the new Sweden and if it´s better to play in band with only two members.

Listen to: Christmas Song von The Raveonettes.

Your last album is two long years ago. Are you happy to be back on stage now?

Very happy!!! We took some time off to lead a more “normal” life and then I started writing again…I think the band sounds better than ever right now. We’re a trio with samples and stuff so it’s a very powerful sound.

On your first album you worked with a drum computer and sounds which bring Buddy Holly, The Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth to mind. What changed since „Chain Gang Of Love“, what´s the sound of The Raveonettes today, Sune?

Still the same. I always worked with computers and beats which is our sound really. I love the mixture of old and new, it’s a very cool sound.

Not long since a great wave of Sweden rock starts here in Germany. But today you can read the line „Danmark is the new Sweden“ because of bands like Dúné and even The Raveonettes. Do you think that you can take advantage of this case that Danmark bands be in sought after?

Not really cause we haven’t lived in denmark for 8 years. I live in new york and sharin lives in los angeles. We’re just an international band really.

Sharin and you, you both are the band. Other Bands like Blood Red Shoes or Handsome Furs are examples that this man-women-combination works, too. But how is it in pairs? Can you compose the better music because you must just agree  in confidence, not in addition to three other guys? Do you have more playground in your two person combination?

When I started the raveonettes I wanted the vocals to be like the everly brothers except that it would be a boy/girl thing. I love nancy sinatra/lee hazlewood, brooke benton/dinah washington, etc…nice sound with boy/girl vocals. I write all the songs so that makes everything a lot easier too.

My most favourite song is „Beat City“ from your EP „Whip it on“. Will you play it for us on December 3rd in Munich? We would be pleased!

The problem when you play with samples is that you don’t always have all the parts with you so I’m sorry to say that we can’t perform it this time around :)
